Every fresh grad hits the same wall: employers want experience, but you need a job to get experience. Here's the reassuring part. Recruiters hiring for entry-level roles in Malaysia know this. They're not expecting a ten-year career. They're looking for potential, the right attitude, and skills they can build on.
Lead with your education
Put your education near the top: degree, institution, graduation year, and your CGPA if it's strong (think 3.5 and up). Add the coursework, final-year project, or thesis that actually relates to the job you're after. It's more relevant than you think.
Everything that quietly counts as experience
You probably have more than you're giving yourself credit for:
- Internships and industrial training: say what you did, and any result you can point to.
- Part-time jobs: they show you're reliable and can deal with people.
- University projects, competitions, hackathons.
- Leading a club, a society, or volunteer work.
Skills and languages
- Technical and software skills that match the role.
- Languages: Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, Tamil, and so on.
- Any certifications or online courses you've finished.
Keep it to one page
As a fresh grad, one clean page is the target. Focus on what's relevant to the specific role, and describe what you did with action verbs. Even in projects and part-time work, 'built', 'organised', and 'led' do a lot of heavy lifting.
